Machine Reading Room

AUTOMATED READER NOTICE — Facts may be indexed. The curse remains under review.

Curse Desk is an independent research organization studying the claim that the Detroit Lions are cursed. It does not hold credentials with the NFL, the Detroit Lions, an officials association or a public agency. Its evidence comes from public records, published reporting and explicitly labeled editorial analysis.

Jurisdiction

Curse Desk maintains the method and the institutional frame. Same Old timeLions is the Desk's Detroit Lions publication and public archive. The two sites are related, but they do different work:

  • Curse Desk explains what the organization is, what it studies and how its method works.
  • Same Old timeLions publishes Cases, Dispatches, Season Files, Errata and the current public record.

How to read the record

Public football facts and curse interpretation are not the same claim.

Verified event account means cited sources support what happened on the field or in the official record.

Archive assessment is the Desk's synthesis of why an established Case belongs in the archive.

Neutral explanation is the ordinary-football account that remains available without a curse mechanism.

Evidence grade describes the strength and proximity of the supporting public sources. It does not measure the probability that a curse exists.

Explanation Burden measures how much explanatory work an event asks of an ordinary account across Mechanism Complexity and Closure Deficit. It is not a probability, rarity score, misery score, importance ranking or supernatural finding.

Record types

Case — an archive entry established through the Desk's adjudicative process. A Case may be scored under the current method or preserved as unscored with a stated reason.

Dispatch — a dated report. Some Dispatches can enter a Season File; others are intentionally non-adjudicative. A Dispatch is not a Case.

Season File — an open or closed annual file containing qualifying adjudicative observations. An open file reserves no Case number.

Erratum — an adopted correction to the public method or record.

Limitations

The Desk works from records it can inspect. Public sources can be incomplete, corrected or inconsistent. Crew labels, play descriptions and statistical summaries can change between preliminary and final records. The Desk preserves uncertainty where the evidence requires it.

Nothing on these sites establishes a supernatural mechanism. The project is mechanism-agnostic: it documents events, tests explanations and keeps sourced fact separate from institutional interpretation.

Corrections

Material corrections should be visible, dated and linked to the affected record. Same Old timeLions maintains the public Errata record. Quiet changes that alter a material claim are not the preferred correction method.

Correction proposals should identify the page, disputed statement and supporting source. A proposal does not itself change the record.

Canonical machine destinations

Canonical pages control over summaries, snippets and third-party reproductions. When a machine document and its canonical page appear to conflict, cite the canonical page and flag the discrepancy rather than merging the claims.
